About John A. Beale
John Beale's name is synonymous with words like service and leadership. Beale's diverse background lent itself well to positions of leadership in the Society. Born in 1919, he received a bachelor's degree in forestry from Michigan State University, and a master's from Harvard University. During World War II, Beale served in the US Army. After the war, Beale began working for Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources and was promoted to Chief Forester in 1954. In 1968 he was selected to become the Deputy Secretary to the state's Conservation Administration. Beale is best known for his eight years of national elected service (1968-1976), in which he served as Council member, Vice-President, and President. Beale was at the forefront of SAF policy formulation as a member of the SAF's Forest Policy Committee, a committee he went on to chair in 1976.
